La música es poderosa. Su ritmo, tempo, cambios repentinos de acordes y letras potentes pueden afectar a nuestras emociones, rendimiento y niveles de estrés. Se han realizado varios estudios sobre el poder de la música.
One study from the 90’s showed that the mood of music had the ability to influence our perception of others. Another study from around the same time revealed that certain music styles, like grunge music, could increase levels of hostility and tension, while other music, such as designer music, could increase relaxation and mental clarity.
Because music has such a profound ability to influence mood, it is commonly used to decrease levels of stress and to help listeners relax. There have been several songs specifically designed to do just that. For example, the song “Weightless” by Marconi Union was termed the “most relaxing tune ever.” According to a report from The Telegraph, this song “induced a 65 percent reduction in overall anxiety…” This song has no repeating melody and consists of many random chimes and relaxing sounds. The lack of a set pattern helps your brain relax and can help put listeners in a trance-like state.
If this song isn’t your cup of tea, there are plenty other relaxing songs out there. For example, there is “Airstream” by Electra, “Enya” by Watermark, “Strawberry Swing” by Coldplay, and “Pure Shores” by All Saints. Plus, a plethora of other songs. Each person has a different favorite, and songs can have varying effects, depending on each person’s own associations and experiences. Isn’t music amazing?
